“Avaas was just a village kid trying to learn the tabla in those days,” Manjul recalled, “but he understood the struggle and he felt deeply that Nepal belonged
to all Nepalis.” Indeed, the underlying message in the lyrics that Avaas chooses for his songs, whether they are his own or something he picks up from his poet friends, go to the heart of Nepal’s current dilemma but always carrying a sense of hope. Both the words and the music uplifting. Explains Manjul: “It comes from Avaas’ own quick-to-smile personality, his belief that we may be in darkness but soon the sun will rise, as it must.”

Aavaas

Aavaas bears with him a humble sincerity and devotion every true artist imbibes in their creativity. He has always been a meticulous observer and practitioner of music from a very early age.

Aavaas has attained and mastered his musical knowledge from revered music gurus of Nepal and India including Ambar Gurung - the cannon of Nepali Adhunik Sangeet, who gave him intimate teachings for more than ten years. This deep association with his dearest guru, he prizes as a lifetime achievement.

Aavaas is a composer, singer and lyricist of contemporary Nepali music with a base in traditional Nepali and south Asian classical styles. He began his musical career from his early childhood, and went on to sing with the bands Sankalpa and Aasthaa. Aavaas has composed original music for feature films, documentaries, dramas and radio programs. He has worked in radio as a music director, and has performed group and solo concerts in various places in Nepal, as well as in Europe. In addition, he arranges and composes songs of other Nepali singers, as well as children's songs. He lives in Kathmandu.

 Note: Aavaas' official name is Achyut Prasad Phuyal.
